I discontinued the syndication of my political drawings some 30 years ago .... however, it's surprising (and depressing) to me to see how many of those images remain relevant. So, as a signpost to the future, here's a bit of the past ...
Justice & the Winds of Change
Dan Hubig © 1983
This national election has many truly important issues at the heart of it. But, none is more important and holds the promise of significant change more than the possibility of realigning the Supreme Court. This conservative Supreme Court has systematically chipped away at the landmark judicial decisions of the last fifty years. The next president will undoubtedly make the appointments that will either solidify the accomplishments of the Rehnquist and Roberts courts ... or ... have the opportunity to re-establish the ideal of inclusive voting rights, women's health care protection, reasonable champaign financing regulations, the right of the E.P.A. to regulate environmental conditions that helped create Global warming, to again embrace the notion of one person = one vote, to re-invigorate the notion of separation of church and state and return power to people rather than corporations. Yes, a dream for sure - but the Winds of the moment are powerful and blowing in opposite directions. Anything could happen, the next few months will decide.
